It is a Korean combative sword training system only available to a few martial arts schools at the present time. The actual sword techniques were developed during the three kingdoms period (15th century) in Korea and used against invaders from neighboring countries. Back then, even the highly regarded Chinese weapons experts respected the prowess of a Korean swordsman. Ki Gum Do involves the study of Ki energy. Ki is described as the life force of all living matter. In a human being, this Ki (life force) is found in the abdomen one inch below the naval. This two- inch square area is called Dan Jun, which literally means Ki reservoir or energy field. Within Dan Jun, there are three acupuncture points. These points control Ki energy, to accumulate, contain and distribute it. In a way, Ki is similar to a battery in a automobile. Without the battery, the car has no purpose. Without strong Ki, a person feels weak, tired and has no enthusiasm for life. However, if Ki energy is properly charged and maintained, one will experience the optimum energy level and yield a high quality of life, which in turn induces peace of mind. Ki gum do teaches how to develop this energy. It allows you to harness Ki not only into sword techniques, but into your creative world as well.
